Fico Bianco del Cilento DOP
Fico Bianco del Cilento is grown in the province of Salerno in Campania, within the wonderful Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. The plant's endurance to drought has made it possible for it to perfectly adapt to the climate of this area.
Fig tree was imported in Campania by Greek settlers; many Roman authors such as Cato and Varro write about the products of this land and particularly fired figs, which were used as a food for farm workers. Cilento dried figs then begun to be valued as a luxury and became more and more sought after by traders.
Fico Bianco del Cilento DOP is very tasty, sweet and aromatic. It is picked when it is overripe if it is to be left with its skin, or, if it is to be dried, it is picked before coming to ripeness. It is sun-dried in the traditional way and, in some cases, it can be cooked to darken the skin.
The taste of Fico Bianco del Cilento DOP can be enjoyed in full in its most traditional form: stuffed with nuts and almonds, seasoned with lemon and wild fennel and dipped in dark chocolate and brown sugar.
